About AICA
The Association of Independent Churches of Africa (AICA) is a denomination with congregations across Liberia, organized into three regions: the Liberia Monrovia Region, the Grand Gedeh Region, and the Kanweaken Region. This website represents the Liberia Monrovia Region (LMR), currently headed by Rev. Frederick D. Tugbah as Interim Resident Bishop. The AICA Liberia Monrovia Region broadly covers the following counties, listed alphabetically: Bong, Grand Bassa, Grand Cape Mount, Montserrado (where Monrovia is located), Nimba, River Cess, and Sinoe.
Our History
The roots of AICA trace back to 1970 in Sinoe County, when the tenures of missionaries serving the Baffu Bay and Baptist churches came to an end. At the time, Pa Know and Mother Eliza Davies George led the congregations. Rather than leave the churches without direction, the late Bishop Dr. Augustus B. Marwieh, who had been supported by Mother George to pursue missionary education, was recalled from Ricks Institute, where he served as Principal, to take up this responsibility.
With the missionaries' tenure ending, the churches were encouraged to unite so that the congregations would not be scattered. This led to the formation of the Association of Independent Churches of Africa (AICA), bringing together the majority of churches from the Baptist and Baffu Bay traditions. Some churches chose not to join and continued under the late Bishop John P. Tarley, retaining the Baffu-Bay name.
On December 25, 1972, a joint conference of the Elizabeth Native Interior Mission (which operated the Baptist churches) and the Baffu-Bay churches was held in Bilibokree, Juarzon Statutory District, formally establishing the AICA denomination. The founding conference resolved that AICA would operate throughout the Republic of Liberia, across Africa, and beyond, with a mission spanning nationwide evangelism as well as relief and social concern for communities in need.

Our Doctrinal Statement
We believe that both the Old and New Testaments constitute the divinely inspired Word of God, inerrant in the original.
We believe in one God, existing eternally in three persons — Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God, became man without ceasing to be God, in order that He might reveal God and redeem sinful men.
We believe that the Holy Spirit came forth from the Father and the Son to convict the world of sin, of righteousness, and of judgment, and to regenerate, comfort, and seal those who believe in Jesus Christ, empowering them to use spiritual gifts in carrying out His work.
We believe that man is totally depraved and that in himself he is utterly unable to remedy his lost condition.
We believe that the salvation of man is a gift of God, brought by grace and received through personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, whose atoning blood was shed on the cross for the forgiveness of sins.

Where We Are
AICA Liberia Monrovia Region is headquartered on 18th Street, Sinkor, Monrovia, and serves approximately 500 members across its congregations.
